The organisation and functioning of the ministry are regulated by the provisions of the Government Ordinance No.63/2003 on the organisation and functioning of the Ministry of Administration and Interior, adopted with the supplementations and amendments by Law No 604/2003, supplemented and amended, and the Government Decision No. 725/2003 on the organisation chart and the effectives of the Ministry of Administration and Interior, amended and supplemented.

MAI’s responsibilities in the field of public order and safety:

according to the law, it sets measures for defending the human fundamental rights and liberties, as well as for defending the public and private property;


according to its competence, it organizes and develops, through specialized structures, activities for preventing and countering terrorism, organized crime, illicit trafficking and consumption of drugs, trafficking in persons, illegal migration, computer crime, as well as other crimes and antisocial deeds;

MAI’s responsibilities in the field of public administration:

monitors the enforcement of provisions contained by the strategies and programs of reform and restructuring of the central and local public administration, elaborated on basis of the Governing Programme, in compliance with the European Union standards and the domestic legislation and it ensures the achieving of strategies and programs in its own activity field;


guides and controls the prefect’s activity for the fulfilment of the Governing Programme;
