Press Release

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Nicolae Bode, together with the Secretary of State, head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, attended today, October 11th, 2022, at the signing ceremony of the contract for the purchase of two multi-role vessels intended to save lives and protection of goods.

The two boats will be designed and built at the Galati shipyard.

„The state-of-the-art equipment of the two ships, which will serve the GIES structures, will allow rescuers to intervene at sea, in extreme conditions. The acquisition of these ships is a first for our structures and I am convinced that they will contribute to increasing the efficiency of the missions to which we will be called to respond. Also, the investment in the purchase of the two ships is also of particular importance for the Romanian economy, considering that the design and execution will be carried out at the Galati shipyard,” declared the Minister of Internal Affairs during the ceremony.

The acquisition is financed from European funds through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2021- Vision 2020 and has a total value of approximately 44 million euros.

The new boats, which will be part of the Department for Emergency Situations, through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, can ensure the necessary conditions for coordinating joint operations with other structures.

The boats will have the function of a control center, which allows the interconnection with other boats in order to provide support for the rescue of people in danger, the location, retrieval of boats and ships adrift as well as people in the water, the location and liquidation of fires that have broken out on board of ships or marine platforms, firefighting and pollution control.

The multi-role ships will be included within the equipment of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in December 2023.
