On Tuesday, June 15th, 2021, at the MIA headquarters, Mr. Lucian Bode, Minister of Internal Affairs met Mr. David MUNIZ, in charge of US ad-interim affairs in Bucharest. This meeting is included in the series of regular meetings between the two authorities, in the context of strengthening the strategic bilateral relationship.

On this occasion, topics of common interest were discussed, such as police cooperation with the Federal Intelligence Bureau, the combating organized crime, specially emphasizing on countering trafficking in human beings.

Another topic discussed was countering corruption, the Romanian official emphasizing the permanent concern of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to improve the regulatory framework and the necessary instruments to prevent and combat corruption. At the same time, he mentioned the latest Report of the European Commission about the evolution of Romania`situation within the cooperation and review mechanism, which highlights the positive trends registered by the Romanian state on this level; these progresses were appreciated by the American counterpart.

The agenda of the discussions also included the file of Romania’s inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program, the Romanian counterpart reiterating the determination of the authorities to continue the efforts aiming at Romania’s accession to the Program.
