To date, on January 17th , in Romania, 693,644 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been confirmed.

622,414 patients were declared cured.

Following the tests performed at national level, compared to the last report, 2,156 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were registered, these being cases that had not previously had a positive test. The distribution by counties of the total and new cases can be found in the table below.

  *Regarding the “new cases not allocated by counties”, we specify that their number is determined by the changes brought to the electronic platform through which the test results for the new coronavirus are reported and centralized. Thus, according to the new methodology, the testing centers directly introduce the results of the tests performed, and the epidemiological investigation will be performed at the level of the Public Health Directorates and the positive cases will be assigned to the county / locality to which the infected persons belong.

The coefficient of infections accumulated at 14 days, reported per 1,000 inhabitants is calculated by the Public Health Directorates, at the level of Bucharest Municipality and counties. Below you have the chart based on the reports received by CNCCI from the Public Health Directorates:

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 509 people were reconfirmed positively. The distribution by county of these cases can be found in the table below.

Until today, 17,221 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

Between 16.01.2021 (10:00) – 17.01.2021 (10:00) 57 deaths (41 men and 16 women) were reported, of some patients infected with the new coronavirus, hospitalized in Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Bihor, Brăila, Bistrița-Năsăud, Botoșani, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Călărași, Constanța, Galați, Hunedoara, Iași, Mureș, Olt, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava,  Timiș, Vaslui and Bucharest.

Of these, 1 death was recorded in the age category 30- 39, 1 death in the age category 40- 49, 2 deaths in the age category 50- 59 years, 15 deaths in the age category 60- 69 years, 18 deaths in the age group 70-79 years and 20 deaths in the over 80 years category.

55 of the registered deaths are of some patients who presented comorbidities, for 2 deceased patient no comorbidities were registered.

In the health units, the total number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is 8,552. Of these, 1,076 are hospitalized at Intensive Care Units.

Until today, have been processed 5,164,549 RT-PCR tests and  43,083 rapid antigen tests. In the last 24 hours, were performed 11,524 RT-PCR tests (6,529 according to case definition and medical protocol and  4,995 on request) and 3,392 rapid antigen tests.

In Romania, 37,146 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 8,426 people are in institutional isolation. Also, 60,554 people are in quarantine at home, and 84 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 1,541 calls were registered to the unique emergency number 112.

As a result of the violation of the provisions of Law no. 55/2020 on some measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the police and gendarmes applied, on January 16th  2021., 5,337 sanctions for minor offenses, amounting to 924,857 lei.

Also, through the competent structures of the Police, 5 crimes were found yesterday to thwart the fight against diseases, a deed provided and punished by art. 352 Penal Code.

We remind the citizens that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has operationalized, starting with 04.07.2020, a TELVERDE line (0800800165) where violations of the sanitary protection norms can be notified.

The calls are taken over by a dispatcher, in an integrated system, and distributed to the territorial structures for the verification of the notified issues.

Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens in other states, 7,396 Romanian citizens were confirmed as infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (coronavirus): 1,941 in Italy, 1,487 in Spain, 173 in the United Kingdom, 125 in France, 3.110 in Germany, 93 in Greece, 49 in Denmark, 36 in Hungary, 28 in Netherlands, 2 in Namibia, 4 in USA, 7 in Sweden, 131 in Austria, 22 in Belgium, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 36 in Switzerland , 3 in Turkey, 2 in Iceland, 2 in Belarus, 2 in Bulgaria, 12 in Cyprus, 2 in India, 2 in Ukraine, 8 in United Arab Emirates, 12 in Moldova, 3 in Montenegro, 79 in Ireland and one each in Argentina, Tunisia, Luxembourg, Malta, Brazil, Kazakhstan, the Republic of the Congo, Qatar, the Vatican, Portugal, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Singapore, Slovenia, the Russian Federation and Croatia. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic and until now, 135 Romanian citizens abroad, 33 in Italy, 19 in France, 43 in Great Britain, 11 in Spain, 14 in Germany, 2 in Belgium, 3 in Sweden, 2 in Ireland, 2 in Switzerland, one in the USA, one in Brazil, one in the Republic of Congo and one in Greece, one in Iran have died.

Of the Romanian citizens confirmed with the new coronavirus infection, 798 were declared cured: 677 in Germany, 90 in Greece, 19 in France, 6 in Japan, 2 in Indonesia, 2 in Namibia, one in Luxembourg, one in Tunisia and one in Argentine.

Below we present the situation regarding the infection with the SARS – CoV – 2 virus at European and global level:

Between January 7th, 2021 – January14th, 2021, were reported 16,938,330 cases in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra. Most cases have been reported in France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Germany.

As of 15th of December, the CEPCB has stopped publishing data on the number of confirmed cases and the number of deceased citizens, both in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, Andorra and globally. These reports will be updated weekly.

Data published by Johns Hopkins CSSE, targeting the number of healed citizens, continues to be updated daily.
