The Internal Affairs Minister, Carmen Dan, hosts today in Brussels the EU-Africa Migration Conference.The EU-Africa Conference takes place in the contextof the Justice and InternalAffairs Council and has as its main theme the management of the migration phenomenon -a topic also on the agenda of the JIA Council, which begins today and concerns both the European Union and the North African states.Together with the Minister of Internal Affairs, the European Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos and high representatives of the African Union participate within the conference.”As Minister of Internal Affairs of an EU Member State, I can say that the instruments of each Member State for cooperation with third countries on migration are quite limited comparingto what we can do together with the EU. Migration challenges can not be tackled by a single country, as the past has showntous”,declaredthe Internal Affairs Minister,Carmen Dan,at the opening of the Conference.Both the representatives of the European Union and those of the African states have stresseduponthe need to identify solutions that the citizens of Europe and Africa can benefit and to control the phenomenon of illegal migration that jeopardizes the citizens of the African states.In his turn,theEuropean Commissioner for Migration, InternalAffairs and Citizenship,Dimitris Avramopoulos said at the beginning of the conference: „We need to be able to transform the common challenges that we face in development opportunities that bring benefits to both Europe and Africa. „Within the Internal Affairssection of the Justice and InternalAffairs Council, concrete measures will be proposed to manage the migration phenomenon, including the adoption of a Regulation on the establishment of the Migration and Asylum Fund.
