On Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, a meeting took place at the MAI headquarters between Mr. Cătălin Predoiu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, and H.E. Mr. Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni, the ambassador of the Italian Republic in Romania.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the excellent relations between the two states, developed both bilaterally within the framework of the Strategic Partnership and at the level of the European Union. Regarding the field of internal affairs, the cooperation is consistent with an emphasis on the fields of police collaboration, emergency situations, respectively those within the competence of the Gendarmerie.
The two interlocutors highlighted the multitude of challenges that states face to ensure the security of citizens, from the threats arising from the armed conflict in Ukraine, to those caused by climate change, especially floods. Thus, it emerged the need to strengthen the states’ capacity to respond to crises through joint actions for preparation.
The Romanian minister reviewed the MIA’s priorities for the next period, underlining the determination of the ministry’s leadership to increase the performance of operative structures.
HE Mr. Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni reconfirmed Italy’s support and mentioned the Italian side’s openness to expanding cooperation in the field of internal affairs.
Mr. Predoiu thanked for the open and constructive dialogue held, expressing his conviction that the privileged cooperative relationship between the two states will continue as before, at the highest standards.
