The statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, after the meeting with the representatives of the National Agency against Organized Crime – NCA

I recently had a meeting in Great Britain with representatives of the National Organized Crime Agency – NCA, where we discussed the policies implemented in the United Kingdom to prevent and combat drug trafficking, with an emphasis on the prevention component in schools and universities.

During the discussions, I presented the main objectives that I pursued since assuming the mandate, namely the fight against organized crime, with an emphasis on the fight against drugs and related crimes, respectively human trafficking.

We agreed on ways to intensify the exchange of information and best practices, support joint initiatives and strengthen actions to eradicate trafficking networks. Effective information sharing can help prevent security threats.

Police officers from the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime will carry out an operational support mission for the British authorities, starting with March this year.

This type of cooperation represents an investment in the ability of the Romanian Police to fight organized crime, so that we maintain a high standard in terms of the safety of our citizens.

Another topic I addressed during the meeting was that of professional training and the establishment of a partnership with the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy in order to improve the Romanian policemen’s ability to respond to current challenges.

The expertise of the Agency’s specialists is recognized in the field and, more than that, the NCA can contribute to the success of the reform process that we initiated at the level of this educational institution.

On a more general level, the reform and modernization of the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Academy is an investment in increasing the professionalization and integrity of all armed structures within the MIA.
