On July 25th, 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, had a meeting, at the MAI headquarters, with Her Excellency Ms. Kathleen Ann Kavalec, the ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest.
The discussions highlighted the commitment of both sides to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two states. At the same time, the priorities of the bilateral relationship were pointed out, such as: intensifying the exchange of information to prevent and combat organized crime, illegal migration, drug trafficking. Combating human trafficking still remains a priority area, the Romanian authorities’ actions also taking into account the recommendations made in the US Report on Human Trafficking.
A distinct point on the discussion agenda was represented by the inclusion of Romania in the Visa Waiver Program, the Romanian official transmitting the determination of the authorities to continue the efforts aimed at the inclusion of Romania in the Program, as well as the progress recorded in this file. For her part, Mrs. Ambassador Kavalec reiterated her support for achieving this important goal for Romanian citizens.
Also, Minister Predoiu envisaged the essential objectives of the MAI for the next period and emphasized the determination of the MAI leadership to increase the performance of operative structures to achieve these objectives, direct dialogue being essential for a real-time exchange of information.
