Press release

From the first signs of increasing the volume of passport applications, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Nicolae Lucian BODE, ordered measures in order to avoid overcrowding at the headquarters of community public services, including the extension of working hours with the public, as well as supplementation, up to maximum capacity, of the applications pick-up stations, used at the territorial level of passports structures.

Although the legal deadline for issuing electronic simple passports is 15 working days, the document is issued within two working days.

In order to reduce the response time, together with the prefect’s institutions, it will be measured to carry out the working activity with the public on weekends.

Currently, in order to personalize the simple electronic passports, the working activity schedule of the Unique National Center for the Personalization of Electronic Passports is from 06.00 to 22.00, including on weekends.

In order to ensure the issuing of passports as soon as possible, the measure was ordered to relocate, in order to resolve, a category of requests from the structure of loaded passports to those with a lower influx (during 03-09.03.2022 3,713 requests were relocated from SPCP of Bucharest, Constanța, Iași and Suceava to SPCP Argeș, Buzău, Bistrița-Năsăud, Călărași, Caraș-Severin, Covasna, Gorj, Harghita, Ialomița, Olt, Mehedinți, Mureș, Teleorman and Vrancea).

In 20 counties, where a significant number of requests were registered, the working activity schedule with the public was extended by at least two hours.

On 08.03.2022, the average term, at national level, for issuing the simple electronic passport was 2 working days (however in some counties such as CJ, CT, TM, VS the term was about 3 working days from the moment of applications’ registration  and up to the entry of simple electronic passports in the structural management of passports).

We specify the fact that, on 08.03.2022, 48,593 programming were carried out, for a number of 85,197 people, and on 09.03.2022 until 12:00, 14,370 programmings were carried out for a number of 25,259 people (for the purpose of presenting at the counter in the next 90 days).

We remind the citizens that they can use the online programming platform in other counties that have places available for the desired interval.

The General Directorate of Passports has delegated 20 police officers to support the activity of the Community Public Passport Service in Bucharest.

Specialists from the Methodological Coordination Office and the Control Service were sent daily to support the activity and streamline the influx of citizens for the headquarters of the Community Public Passport Service Bucharest and Ilfov in Mall Park Lake.
